Let’s Make a Film on South Bay Surfing History

Our newest, largest, and most ambitious initiative has just begun:

The development of a documentary film that tells the story about South Bay’s role with the origin of surf culture and its extraordinary contribution to surfing history.

With the most iconic surf pioneers emerging in the South Bay, this is a story that must be told. And, with the enormity of the global surf community and industry, we will release the film globally. In the last few years we have lost local legends such as Hap Jacobs, Greg Noll, Phil Becker, Mike Eaton, Mike Doyle, Bob and Bill Meistrell and others, which has created urgency to get this project done. SBBC is collaborating with production professionals Greg Browning “The Drive Thru”, Matt Warshaw (Encyclopedia of Surfing), Bud Tody “The Life of Endless Summers”, The Marcs “The Life of Kai”, and Peter Hamblin “Riss”.

The estimated budget for this project is $3,000,000 and we humbly request financial support from the South Bay community, (businesses and residents), to make this happen.
